Carmen Scheide, born in 1965, studied History and Slavic Languages in Munich, Freiburg/Br. and Moscow. In 1999 she finished her PhD with a book about women politics and daily life in the early Soviet Union. From 1995 till 2005 she worked as assistant at the History Department of the University of Basel. In 2009 she was fellow at the Center of Excellence/ University of Constance. In 2011 she finished her Habilitation about Memories of the Second World War in Russia. From 2012 till 2016 she was Executive Director at the Center for Governance and Culture in Europe (GCE) at the University of St. Gallen. There she participates in a research project about Ukraine and is chief editor of the open access online journal Euxeinos: Governance and Culture in the Black Sea Region. Starting from August 2016 she is holds a lectureship for East European History at the University of Bern.
